Series: Camp Camp
Appearance: bam
Age: 10
Canon Point: Season 2, Episode 12, Parents' Day
Canon History: Max @ the Camp Camp wiki and basic plot summary. Not... great, but Camp Camp is more of an episodic comedy than really plot driven, so hopefully that... works. If not, let me know.
Personality: Max generally has two moods. Deadpan and world weary or pissed off. Either way, you can assume he hates everything. By default he is Grump and anyone around him is Not So Grump. Don't go looking for childish innocent and a sunny disposition, you're going to be extremely disappointed. He's almost perpetually angry, nearly always frowning. And a lot of the things he says will be coated in a thick layer of sarcasm. It's very possible that there's spite running through his body instead of blood. The kid wears a hoodie at camp in the summer just to be rebellious.
It might be a little disconcerting to some to see a ten year old kid act like he does. Not just the constant swearing, though... probably also that. Because good lord the mouth on this child. More than that, however, there's his very cynical attitude. Max has a jaded outlook on life. So he tends to assume the worst of people, is convinced everyone is terrible, and the whole world sucks. And anyone who doesn't see it that way is clearly just deluded and should stop giving so much of a shit already.
Which means he can't stand anyone with a very optimistic attitude. It's infuriating to him to see someone care so much and be so positive when everything is clearly terrible. All he wants is to bring them down to his level, which... he often works at. Sometimes very maliciously, since the kid almost manages to break David in the first season finale. Though this doesn't mean that Max is completely heartless, since he does actually end up feeling kinda bad when he goes too far. Which he would furiously deny if anyone called him on it, because Max puts a lot of work into his apathetic attitude and no one is allowed to see signs that he might care about some things. You know, like other people's feelings. Or the teddy bear that he absolutely doesn't own, what the fuck is this slander, shut up. He also feels kinda bad when he calls Pikeman gross, for instance. And when Space Kid says his parents aren't coming for parents' day, Max gets downright sympathetic for a moment, proving that, yes, there actually is a heart in there.
Speaking of things Max cares about, though... One thing he doesn't bother to hide is that he loves mischief. Fucking with people is the best sport of all, right? It's most fun when he can mess with the people he doesn't like, of course. And even when he's not the one causing the trouble, you bet he'll sit back and watch the train wreck play out, maybe make some popcorn. He delights in it even more if this happens to any sort of authority, because he's a rebellious little shit at heart.
And a clever little shit, at that. How many ten year olds do you know who know how to hotwire a bus? Max tends to actually think things through and, while still a cynical asshole, does tend to be one of the more sane people at the camp. Because he's not really the ridiculous shenanigans type and can see how insane everything is. He's more grounded and, as Neil puts it, actually has critical thinking skills. He tends to have a good grasp of everything going on. Though he often doesn't really care enough to do shit about it, of course. But he does tend to come up with plans for Nikki and Neil to go along with, because... well, he's the schemer. It's what he's good at.
...But he is a kid, despite all that. And while he might act jaded, there are still childish things about him. Yes, he can hotwire a bus, but he sure can't drive one. He gets excited about the possibility of looking at boobs. He's got just as much of a naive view of romance as everyone else in their plan to get David and Bonquisha back together, even if he does recognize the cliches. And despite his insistence that nothing scares him, sometimes things absolutely freak him out. Like old people having sex or when Harrison messes him up with a magic trick.
And deep down he doesn't... actually hate everything as much as he says. Oh, he does hate a lot, absolutely. But a lot of his attitude seems to come from the fact that his own parents don't seem to give a shit about him, which he talks about like he doesn't care, yet is eventually proven to upset him a great deal. He's lashing out, because that's how he deals with this. And it's shown that, no, he doesn't actually hate David. Hell, when David shows he cares more about Max than his parents do, he actually hugs him. Briefly. He'll kill you if this gets out.
Abilities: Max has all the powers of the average ten year old. So... not much. He's got some skills that he picked up at the camp, such as, say, knitting or knot tying. Then there's his talent for scheming, decent intelligence for a kid his age, and apparently he knows how to construct a catapult. But no real powers, no.
